Our History

The American history is as old as the Northwest Territory whose path was forged by buffalo, horses, stagecoaches, fur traders and eventually the settlers who came as our nation grew west to Vincennes, the furthermost outpost of the day. Landmarks still exist to commemorate that passage.

About the Touism Council

Martin County tourism council is also known as the Martin County Innkeeper’s Commission. Meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5pm. The public is welcome to attend. If you don’t already, please follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

Fun Facts & "True Stories"

Did you know, because of its caves and cliffs, the region around and including Shoals in Martin County was a popular hideout for bootleggers during the Prohibition? Click the button below to learn more fun facts and stories about our historical region!

I have lived in Martin County my whole life, but I have been blessed to travel to all 50 states, Europe three times and Canada.  I think what I love most about Martin County is the scenery, the low crime rate, and friendly people who reside here.
